ABOUT ME

My name is Simon Eiterig and I work for the amexus Informations- technik GmbH since feburary 2018, before that i worked at itemis for five years. While initially beeing employed as a full-stack java developer, i transitioned to usability engineering in 2016 and nowadays i focus mostly on agile project management and design thinking.

I've worked with various clients on IT-solutions, service-oriented architectures, digital workplaces, cloud migrations and more recently on user experience optimizations for enterprise social networks. My projects spanned over multiple industry branches such as eCommerce, automotive, health and science.

My passion is to support the creation of software that users enjoy to use.

Usability is not only about ease of use but also about bringing something meaningful, having a common objective with the user.
– Marcus Österberg, Web Strategy for Everyone

My background and education

Born in the city of Münster, Germany in March 1984, i grew up in a loving family as your typical 80s kid. Thanks to the tech-affinity of my older brother i was introduced to things like a Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 at a very early age. Like many other kids my interest in technology was sparked through games. At the age of 6, i got a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), which i still own to this very day.

During my education at the 'Gymnasium Augustinianum', i took my first steps in programming. Experimenting with Turbo Pascal and Borland Delphi helped me to understand what i wanted to pursue later in life. Also around this time i started designing various websites, learning html, css, php, and graphic tools like corel draw in that process.

After finishing school in 2003, i enlisted at the 'Carl von Ossietzky University' in Oldenburg for computer science. During my studies i discovered my enthusiasm for software ergonomics, interaction design and gamification. Consequently i finished my studies in 2012 with my diploma thesis: 'Gamification - Theory and practical applications'.

During my working experience i encountered a plethora of technologies and tools from various categories. Obviously i do not have the same level of expertise in all of these. Here are my self-reflected ratings of skills, methods and tools that i came across so far.
